GLOBAL PEACE SONG AWARDS
Smith Sisters Bluegrass formed in 2016 at the suggestion of their dad (Fred Sherry Smith) an award winning singer and musician. It was at one of their last visits with him, they heard a charming bluegrass band at a Farmers Market in Northern California. Their dad turned to Kelli and said “you girls should really try bluegrass!” Having always loved bluegrass music it was something the girls thought to seriously consider! Although they are from “the South”… “Southern California” that is… the Smith Sisters knew their sound might not be “traditional bluegrass”… so this was something to contemplate… but Kelli couldn’t deny it any longer… the instrumentation she was hearing on her original tunes… indeed was bluegrass! It only took one suggestion from her dad and suddenly a light went on!!
The Smith Sisters released an album… in their dad’s honor… in 2017 entitled “Shoe Tree” and to continue their dad’s legacy the girls decided to go “all in” and form their band using their maiden name… Smith Sisters… thus Smith Sisters Bluegrass was born!
In 2018 they decided they had so many great stories about their mom, stories that happened with their mom and songs with traits they learned from her… they wanted to release these tunes in bluegrass. It was in August of 2018 their sophomore album entitled Momma! was released!
Kelli and her sister Wendi have been singing together their entire lives both for fun and professionally but their dad helped them realize true niche!
Since forming Smith Sisters Bluegrass has appeared live on the CBS morning television show “Good Day Sacramento;” received two 2016 Academia Awards a 2017 Josie Award nomination for Artist/Group of the Year in Folk/Bluegrass/Americana as well as two additional 2018 Josie Award nominations for both Album of the Year and Duo of the Year.
